Florida Striders – Run to the Sun – April 16

We are looking for 7 operators to assist with the Run to the Sun event, sponsored by Florida Striders.  We need to setup at 7am and will be done around 11-11:30am.  This is a fun event.  It will start behind the Dog Track and go along River Road.

Winter is coming, and so is an El Nino pattern in Florida

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. –Floridians should brace themselves for a wet and wild winter, all thanks to El Nino.

The weather pattern happens every few years when the Pacific Ocean warms up around the equator. This year’s is one of the strongest El Ninos on record.

Craig Fugate, a former Floridian who once headed the state’s emergency management operations and who is now the Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator, said the last time Florida saw such a strong El Nino, dozens of people died from tornadoes.

“You just don’t think of Florida as a tornado-prone state,” said Fugate.

Field Day 2014 – Florida Times Union

Field Day was a GREAT success as operators from both Clay County ARES and OPARC joined forces at the Orange Park High School to contact all 50 states and most of Canada — at last report, over 1000 contacts were made.

“ORANGE PARK | Be it hurricane, wildfire, flood or tornado, when disaster wipes out communications at home or abroad, Clay County volunteers are ready to relay messages so emergency authorities can get help where it’s needed and let families know their loved ones are safe.” Continue reading
